Indie. Passion. Art. Music.
Hail The Sun has been pretty quiet for the past year and some change since the release of their EP Elephantitis. However, the guys weren’t lazing about and eating Cheetos, all the while lamenting their new-found fame. Donovan Melero and company actually have been pretty busy. Just last week the group announced that they signed with Blue Swan Records, and on top of that they plan on releasing a new full length album through the fledgling record company this upcoming Fall. The best part about all of this is the band has given us a taste of what to expect with their new single “Hanging Revelation.”
I’m on the late freight here as “Hanging Revelation” is about a week old, but as they say, “better late than never.” The song has all of the energy that we have come to expect from the group, but the lyrics are fascinating in the sense that they seem to allude to a girl waiting to be executed for what is presumed to be witchcraft. The song addresses themes of mob mentality, how quick we are to chastise people for their differences, and how fear can lead us to take horrific actions and yet still feel completely justified in them.
Hail The Sun had this to say about their new single, “Those in control have the ability to use fear as a tactic; to get others to support their motives, to encourage ‘witch hunts’ of other beings that they feel threatened by. This fear, when instilled correctly in the masses, can cause us to do unthinkable things to each other, while everyone watching does nothing. ALWAYS ask questions…” . The band has always had a knack for addressing social/societal ill through their songs , so it should come as no shock that this release follows in the same pattern as their other works, at least in a thematic sense.
The band has seen a spike in their popularity as of late, especially in light of all of their recent announcements. Given their talent level as well as praise from acts such as A lot Like Birds and Dance Gavin Dance, the only shocking part is that they didn’t catch on sooner. But considering that the band has 10,000 likes on Facebook, and their video for “Hanging Revelation” has already been viewed 12,000 times, it’s safe to say that it’s Hail The Sun’s time to shine . Be sure to checkout the awesome lyric video for “Hanging Revelation” below and leave a comment if you occasionally like the words that I say.
Neglect can be just as damaging as out-and-out abuse, which makes me an awful, awful person dear readers. I admit it I have neglected you all, and in the past I have made promises and haven’t kept them, but this time I am back for good. I plan on giving this blog some much-needed attention and nursing it back to full health (like some of those inspirational dog posts that your friends share on Facebook all of the time), but I can’t do it without your help. So feel free to follow my blog so you can get those wonderful little updates every time I post something new, or you could like me on Facebook, either way your digital contribution will be greatly appreciated.
